However, there are many stain removers today that can help whiten towels, extend their useful life and improve their appearance.

Some products, however, have dangerous chemicals and cost too much, but luckily there are also natural alternatives that give similar results for very little.

1. Bleach towels with sodium silicate

Sodium silicate is an inorganic product often used to make washing powders and other cleaning products.

In this case, we suggest adding a small amount to the liquid detergent you usually use to whiten towels and make them soft and free of dirt.

Ingredients

  • 2 liters of water
  • 2 tablespoons of liquid soap (20 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon of sodium silicate (10 g)

What do you have to do?

  • Protect yourself with gloves and a mask and heat the two liters of water with liquid soap and sodium silicate.
  • Once it comes to a boil, soak the towels and leave on low heat for about 20 minutes.
  • After this time, rinse with warm water and let them dry in the sun.

2. White vinegar

White vinegar is a 100% ecological and natural product that, in addition to cleaning and disinfecting, removes stains and softens fabrics.

It is ideal for washing towels, as it keeps them spongy, absorbent and free from bad odors or mold.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of white vinegar (125 ml)
  • ¼ cup of detergent (62 ml)

What do you have to do?

  • For each towel you wish to whiten, add half a cup of white vinegar to the washing machine compartment and a quarter cup of detergent.
  • Start a complete wash cycle with cold water and let them dry in the sun.
  • For stubborn stains, apply white vinegar to the affected area and let it sit for 30 minutes before starting the wash.

3. Baking soda

Bicarbonate

Applying baking soda to towels is a good alternative for removing stains and keeping them soft and delicate.

This product  has disinfectant and antifungal properties that eliminate the bacteria that towels absorb day after day; moreover, it neutralizes unpleasant odors and gives a hygienic appearance.

Ingredients

  • Hot water (just enough)

What do you have to do?

  • Heat the amount of water you consider necessary and add a quarter cup of baking soda for each towel you wash.
  • Immerse them for 60 minutes and then put them in washing machines and activate the usual washing.
  • If there are stubborn spots, moisten with a spoonful of baking soda and lemon and rub directly on the affected area.

4. Sunflower oil

Although sunflower oil is greasy and we may think it stains fabrics, we can combine it with a dry stain remover and detergent to keep the towels flawless and white.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of girale oil (30 g)
  • 2 tablespoons of dry stain remover (20 g)
  • ½ tablespoon of ecological detergent (5 g)

  • 1 tablespoon of ammonia (10 ml)

What do you have to do?
